Family
Access is a free web-based application that gives parents and guardians
online access to their child's grades, assignments, attendance, schedules,
emergency information, and more! This access is made possible through
our student information system, Skyward Family Access. Here's the information
that is currently available through Family Access:
All
Students
- Student
information (name, birth date, grade, locker, etc.)
- Parent/Guardian
Information (names, addresses, phone numbers, and email)
- Emergency
contact information
- Student
attendance and schedules
- Student
Gradebook showing posted grades, missing assignments, and current
class grade
- Immunization
records and other health-related information
- Message
center where teachers may post class or individual messages
Secondary
Students
- Report
cards
- Next
year course selections (available in the Spring only)
- Activities
(school-based extracurricular activities such as NHS, clubs, etc.)
- Fee
Management (high school only)
If
you have access to a computer, you can now monitor your child's assignments
and grades on a regular basis. It's easy to use and we think you'll
find this an invaluable tool!
Security
We
know that security is a concern. Family Access uses Secured Socket
Layer (SSL) encryption. This is the same encryption system used
by sites that accept credit card numbers and other personal data that
must be secure.
Each
parent/guardian, upon request, will be given a unique login and password.
This will be your access to your child's information. To ensure
that the login and password are given only to the parents or guardians,
you must pick up this information in person.
Enrollment
for Family Access 2007-2008
The first
open enrollment for Family Access for the 2007-2008 school year took place
during August Registration and Residency Verification. The second open
enrollment is during campus Curriculum Nights.
If you were
unable to enroll in Family Access at either of these events, you may still
enroll through your child’s campus after Curriculum Night. Enrollment
forms are available online (links are at the bottom of this page). Return
the completed and signed form to your child’s campus. Allow 7-10
school days for the office to complete your enrollment. They will let
you know when you can pick up your login and password.
For security
and confidentiality reasons, the Family Access login and password will
be given only to parents or guardians. You must pick up your login and
password information in person at the campus at which you enrolled. Please
be prepared to show identification.
If you have
more than one child in the district, you'll be pleased to know that Family
Access gives you access to all your children from the same login/password.
You only need to fill out one enrollment form and return it to one campus.
What
you should know about the Family Access Gradebook
The
Gradebook section of Family Access lets you view assignments and grades
in each of your child's subjects. Please note that this tool is
provided to give you a general idea of how your
child is doing in class. You will not be able
to access the grades portion of Family Access until around the time of
the first Progress Report. Teachers need this time to set up their gradebooks
for the new school year.
As
in any profession, teachers have different work styles and schedules.
Some teachers enter grades all at once while others enter them on a regular
basis. You may see assignments listed without grades or as missing because
the teacher is still grading the assignment.
You
should always ask your child about grades and missing assignments before
contacting the teacher.
In
addition:
- Grades
posted at the end of grading terms and end of semesters are the only
accurate grades. These grades reflect all assignments that have
been turned in and graded during that grading term.
- Progress
reports are available as soon as the office posts them to the web.
- Missing
assignments do not necessarily mean that your child hasn't turned
in work. Teachers often create assignments in Gradebook once
they assign them. This is beneficial for you because you know
what assignments your student has been given. The teachers enter
the grades once the assignment has been turned in and graded.
- Please
remember that teachers have a limited amount of time per day to prepare
for classes and grade assignments. It may take several days
for a teacher to grade assignments and enter the grades in Gradebook.
- Teachers
have varying work styles and schedules. It is possible that
you may not see grades for some assignments until close to the end
of the grading term.
- Elementary:
Teachers sometimes divide the class into groups in some subjects to
allow students to work on assignments better suited to their progress.
You may see missing assignments when your child is in a different
group and doing a different assignment.
- Please
check with your child first when you have questions about missing
assignments.
