Grapevine-Colleyville
Education Foundation Golf Tournament supports GCISD teachers, students
and some U.S. Marines
Golfers
from around the area attended the Grapevine-Colleyville Education
Foundation’s second pre-tournament dinner and auction on April
6 and played in the Foundation’s seventh annual golf tournament
on April 7, both at Timarron Country Club. Classic Chevrolet/Hummer
was the platinum lead sponsor for the sixth consecutive year with
gold star sponsors - Mike Davis State Farm Insurance Agency for
the pre-tournament dinner and auction, Wachovia Securities for the
LeaderBoard promotions and Timarron Country Club. Silver Star sponsors
included Huckabee & Associates, Humphrey & Associates, Linebarger,
Goggan, Blair & Sampson, LLP, and Perdue, Brandon, Fielder,
Collins & Mott, LLP. Many additional team and event sponsors
supported the event to make it the most successful ever.
The
Sunday evening dinner and auction was attended by over 200 people
with many auction items donated by community businesses and individuals,
such as a private party with entertainment by platinum record pianist
Danny Wright; “A Classic for All Seasons” four-time
weekly car rental package from Classic Chevrolet/Hummer; two round-trip
American Airlines tickets to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe; a week’s
vacation in Hawaii; plus many other treasures. All of the event
sponsors were recognized and presented gifts.
The
Monday golf tournament was filled with 144 golfers. The patriotic
opening ceremonies included recognition of a team of U.S. Marines,
sponsored by Acme Brick, the singing of the National Anthem by GHS
Junior Tiffany Avery, and a bagpipe send-off for the golfers by
Suzanne Rowntree, a retired GCISD educator. After a beautiful day
of golf, the golfers were treated with food and beverages, a 18th
hole Challenge contest sponsored by Premier Bank and awards and
door prizes. The closing ceremonies demonstrated the overall community
spirit of giving and patriotism. The final prize drawing was a 32-inch
flat screen television, won by Chris Badger of Premier Bank, who
was challenged by Chris Strittmatter of Peoples Bank to donate the
prize to the Marines team and he would make a cash donation to the
Education Foundation and along with Mark Henderson and John Orrell
donate three additional televisions so that each of the Marines
team would receive one.
During
the past seven years, the tournament has raised over $300,000 including
this year’s record total of $80,000. The tournament’s
continued success is due to the overall community support for GCISD
teachers and students.
The
Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation was formed in 1998 to
provide funds beyond the normal operating budget for GCISD students
and staff. While core educational needs are met through the allocation
of tax dollars, the margin of excellence is possible only by contributions
and efforts that go above and beyond the minimum. Foundation funds
are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development,
recognize and encourage staff excellence and expand community involvement
from individuals, businesses and civic organizations. The Foundation
is a nonprofit, tax-exempt public corporation operating independently
under a board of directors serving without compensation.
