DI team earns top award in global competition
Colleyville
Middle School's 8th grade Destination ImagiNation team placed 1st
in the middle school category at the Destination Imagination Global
Finals at the University of Tennessee May 21-24. The team competed
against more than 68 middle school teams from all over the world
in the "Switch" challenge. Their long-term project was
to build a balsa wood structure as light as possible that could
still hold as much weight as possible and their structure weighed
22 grams and held more than 1925 lbs. The team also had to perform
an instant challenge assigned by the judges.
According
to the organization's website, Destination ImagiNation is "the
World's Largest Creative Problem Solving Program for Kids,"
with over 200,000 students in 56 countries and the United States
participating. Destination ImagiNation is a process-based program
that helps young people build lifelong skills in creative and critical
thinking, teamwork, time management and problem solving.
