Early Release this week
The last day of the 2007-08 school year is Wednesday, June 4. Students in grades 9-12 will be released at 12:05 p.m. on June 2 & 3, and at 10:50 a.m. on June 4. Students in grade 6-8 will be released at 11:20 a.m. on June 3 & 4. Students in grades K-5 will be released at 12 p.m. on June 4.

Glenhope Founding Class Reunion set
Graduating seniors who attended kindergarten at the "new" Glenhope Elementary School in the 1995-96 school year are invited to attend the school's 5th Grade Farewell Celebration on Wednesday, June 4, 8:30 a.m., in Glenhope's cafeteria. Thirty-eight seniors, who are
graduating from high school on Saturday, June 7, were in the first kindergarten class to graduate from Glenhope. Seniors will be able to relive their elementary school memories, recount their high school accomplishments and impress upon the 5th grader how successful they can be the the future. An awards ceremony and reception will follow.

End of Year Success Celebrations for Students continue at Heritage Elementary

    • June 3, 8:30 a.m. - Third Grade
    • June 3, 9:30 a.m. - Fourth Grade
    • June 4, 8:30 a.m. - Fifth Grade

June 3 - The fourth grade classes are learning about the free enterprise system in their Junior Achievement Classes. "Enterprise Day" will be held on June 3 during the day. The fourth grade will create a simulated marketplace. Each child, being an entrepreneur, will create handmade items to sell to others. The money that is collected will be donated to GRACE.

GHS Project Graduation planning continues
The next meeting of the Grapevine High School Project Graduation Committee will be June 3 at 7 p.m. in the Colleyville Elementary School Library. Information: Kay Bradshaw: 817-656-1923.

Top students to be honored at academic banquet
The top graduates from Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine high schools will be honored at the Celebrating Our Stars Academic Recognition Banquet sponsored by the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation on Thursday, June 5 at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine. Each honor graduate will recognize a GCSID teacher who has had significant positive influence on his or her education life. Campus teachers of the year will be recognized, as will the District's Elementary Teacher of the Year Patti Rogers and the Secondary Teacher of the Year Dan Oberlender. Graduation ceremonies set for Class of 2008
Class of 2008 Graduation for Grapevine High School and Colleyville Heritage High School will be held on Saturday, June 7 at the Dallas Convention Center. GHS will be at 10 a.m. and CHHS will be at 2 p.m.

Upcoming Events
District's childcare open to community this summer for preschool enrichment
The ECDC is open to the community this summer and will host enrichment camps for children 3-5 years old. Beginning June 7th and ending August 1st, the summer enrichment camps will focus on developmentally appropriate themes and be offered on a weekly basis from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Extended care will be available to parents for the remainder of the day. There will not be enrichment camps provided during the week of June 30 -July 4. Download a flyer with more details.

Driver's Ed and Target classes set for summer
Summer classes for Driver's Education and TARGET Evening Education program begin in June. Only one session, June 12-July 3, is scheduled for Driver's Education so students are encouraged to sign up early if they are interested in taking the course during the summer. Two sessions are planned for TARGET -June 9-20 and June 23-July 3. Additional information is available on the District's website at www.gcisd-k12.org. Free breakfast and lunch offered to students this summer
The Summer Food Service Program at Timberline Elementary provides free meals to all children age 18 and younger. These meals provide essential nutrients for active growing kids. To participate in the free meal program, all kids have to do is show up at a serving site. Breakfast is offered from 8:15 a.m. – 9 a.m. and lunch is offered 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The entire meal must be consumed at the serving site; absolutely no “to go” breakfasts or lunches are available.

Awards and Announcements

Board members take oath; elect new officers
Newly elected members of the 2008-09 GCISD Board of Trustees received the Oath of Office at the May 28 meeting. Karen Coleman, clerk to the Board and Notary Public, administered the oath to trustees Jesse Rodríguez, Place 5 (top); Leon Leal, Place 6 (middle); and Jorge Rodríguez, Place 7 (bottom).

Jesse Rodríguez was re-elected to the Board in the May 10 election. Mr. Leal and Mr. Jorge Rodríguez join the Board as new members. The term for GCISD trustees is three years. Board members elected Jesse Rodríguez, Place 5, to serve as Board president for the 2008-2009 school year. Lisa Hall, Place 4, was re-elected as vice president, a position she has served in during 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. Vicki Thomas, Place 2, was re-elected as secretary, a position she served in during 2007-2008.
