Happening This Week
• Driver’s Education registration opens today
Registration begins today for the fall session of GCISD Driver’s
Education. The session runs Monday-Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 10-Nov.
7 in room 106 at Grapevine High. Cost is $315 for GCISD students,
$365 for out-of-district students, plus a $15 non-refundable registration
fee. Registrations are accepted from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. weekdays
in the front offices of both GHS and Colleyville Heritage High as
well as the office of Continuing Education, 736 E. Northwest Highway

Parent previews scheduled for middle school health programs
Parents of middle school students are encouraged to attend a preview
of the resources and curriculum that are used to educate students
about human sexuality. This curriculum is an abstinence-based program
that will be presented in sixth- and seventh-grade Health, P.E.
and Athletics. The program “Play it Safe,” an assault
prevention and sexual harassment program, will be presented in English
and Spanish from 10-11:30 a.m. and 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 19. The program
“Aim for Success,” a program for eighth-grade students
and high school health students about sexually transmitted diseases,
will be 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 26. All previews will be in the Cross

GCISD Percussion Club
The next session of the GCISD Percussion Club will be Sept. 20 in
the Colleyville Heritage High Band Hall. Sixth-grade will meet at
4 p.m. followed by seventh grade at 4:30 p.m. and eighth grade at
5:10 p.m. Light snacks will be provided following each session.

PTA meetings
O.C. Taylor Elementary – Monthly meeting at 6:15 p.m. Sept.
21, cafeteria. Concert by SideRoads Band will follow from 6:30-8
p.m. on the front lawn of the school.

CHHS Theater presents “Emma’s Child”
Colleyville Heritage High theater students will present the final
three performances of “Emma’s Child” by Kristine
Thatcher on Sept. 21-23. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in
the CHHS Auditorium. General admission seating is $8 for students,

CHHS Choir hosts fund-raiser at Applebee’s
The Colleyville Heritage High School Choir will host a fund-raiser
on Sept. 21 at Applebee’s Restaurant and Grill, 5150 Colleyville
Blvd. in Colleyville. Patrons simply present a coupon to their server
and Applebee’s will donate 10 percent of each purchase to
the CHHS Choir. See any CHHS Choir member for a coupon. Information:

Bear Creek “Exemplary” pep rally
Students and faculty of Bear Creek Elementary will celebrate their
achievement of an “Exemplary” state accountability rating
with a pep rally at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 on the back lawn. The rally
will feature a performance by the nationally recognized Jumpin’
Jammers jump rope team from BCES. Information: 817-305-4860.

HMS choir presents first concert of the year
The Colleyville Middle School will present “A Celebration
of American Music” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Whites Chapel
Methodist Church. With 377 members, the choir is the largest this
year in HMS history. The concert will feature performances from
the Women’s Chorale, Men’s Chorale, Concert Choir, Heritage
Moving Sounds, A Capella and Jazz choirs. Information: Julie Ann

CORRAL set for Friday
Corral, a PTSA-sponsored party after home football games for Grapevine
High School students, will host its next gathering on Sept. 22.
The theme will be Casino Night. The event starts immediately after
the GHS football game and ends at 12:30 a.m. All GHS students are
encouraged to attend and may bring two high school-age guests. The
event will be in the Student Activity Center and Gym 1 at GHS. A
valid high school ID is required to enter. Admission is $5 per person
and includes all food and beverages. For information, visit the

PSAT/SAT Prep Seminar
A preparation seminar for students planning to take either the PSAT
or SAT exam will be 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Colleyville
Heritage High Auditorium. The seminar is conducted by Test Prep
Seminars and will teach test-taking tips and strategies specific
to the SAT as well as general test-taking skills. Cost is $90 and
includes a study guide with answer book and three workbooks with
18, 20-minute sample workouts. For information, contact your high

• GCISD Board of Trustees meeting
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees will meet for its
regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Sept. 25 at the GCISD Administration
Building, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave. in Grapevine. Open session begins

CHHS Band March-A-Thon requests
The Colleyville Heritage High School Band is accepting donations
and song requests for the third-annual March-A-Thon fund-raiser
through Sept. 25. The March-A-Thon is set for Oct. 7, when the band
will march through neighborhoods playing various stand and show
tunes as well as songs requested by individuals and businesses.
The band will depart the Band Hall at 9 a.m. and wrap up with a
grand finale at 11:30 a.m. at Colleyville Town Center. Band members
are collecting donations, pledges and song requests. Donations and
song requests can also be dropped off at the CHHS Band Hall. Information:

TES Literacy Night
Timberline Elementary will host its second-annual Literacy Night
on Sept. 28. The event will follow the monthly PTA meeting at 7
p.m. Students and their parents will be dismissed to classrooms
by grade level where they will hear stories read by TES teachers.
Parents will also receive tips about reading with their students

Glenhope PTA presents Rhinestone Ropers
The Rhinestone Ropers will perform for Glenhope Elementary students
on Sept. 29 as part of a PTA-sponsored program. Ropers on horses
will entertain students with lasso and roping tricks. The performances
will be 1 p.m. for kindergarten-second grades and 2 p.m. for grades
3-5. Both programs will be in the amphitheater behind the school.

Bransford PTA Fun Run
The eighth-annual Bransford Elementary School PTA Fun Run &
Walk will be Saturday, Sept. 30, in Colleyville. The 5K fun run
and 2-mile fun walk begin at 8 a.m. followed by the 1k fun run for
kids at 8:50 a.m. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony
at 9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $12 and includes a T-shirt featuring a
design by BES fourth-graders Joseph Kolo. Proceeds will benefit

CMS celebrates 30 years
Current and former faculty and staff members of Colleyville Middle
School are invited to a reunion dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 to celebrate
that campus’ 30-year anniversary. The dinner will be in the
CMS cafeteria and will be catered by Cliff’s Star Neighborhood
Grill. Cost is $20 per person and reservation/payment is due Sept.

and Announcements
• CMS Super Stitchers seeking donations
Colleyville Middle School’s Super Stitchers sewing club meets
on Thursdays and teaches students the basics of sewing as they work
on projects of their choosing. As the club grows, it will meet twice
a week – one day for personal projects and one day for making
baby quilts to donate to local crises centers. For these projects,
the club needs fabric in one-yard cuts or fabric store gift cards.
