GCISD students, staff to celebrate Red Ribbon Week
GCISD campuses will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-27 with a variety of activities. The District will sponsor a drug prevention poster contest for each grade level and campuses will be decorating their buildings inside and out during this week as part of a District “decorate your school” contest. Campus events include:
Monday, Oct. 23
Bear Creek Elementary – “Put a cap on drugs:” Wear a favorite hat/cap.
Bransford Elementary – “Pledge Day:” Make a drug-free pledge; receive anti-drug wristbands and ribbons, and wear red clothing.
Cannon Elementary – “100% me drug free:” Wear clothes representing a career you could have if you are drug free.
Colleyville Elementary – “Drugs will hurt you:” Wear something to show you are injured (nothing scary or bloody).
Dove Elementary – “Friends help friends be drug free:” Twin day.
Glenhope Elementary – “Put a cap on drugs:” Wear a headband or bandanna.
Grapevine Elementary – “Band together against drugs:” Wear an interesting hat/cap.
Heritage Elementary – “Team up against drugs:” Wear a favorite team shirt/jersey.
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “Tag-you’re it:” Wear red and receive “dog tag” ribbon necklace.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Put on your thinking cap-don’t do drugs:” Wear cap/hat to school.
Timberline Elementary – “Put a cap on drugs:” Wear a hat/cap.
Colleyville Middle – “Kick drugs to the west:” Cowboy day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Team up against drugs:” Friends dress alike or wear a favorite team jersey.
Grapevine Middle – “Don’t get mixed up with drugs:” Wear mismatched clothing.
Heritage Middle – “Join the fight against drugs:” Wear military/camouflage clothes.
Colleyville Heritage High – “Put a cap on drugs:” Wear hats.
Bridges – “Drugs destroy dreams:” Wear pajamas.
Timberline Elementary
Students will be treated to a special drug awareness program presented by Nana Puddin.’ Through puppets and ventriloquism, the presentation will encourage students to stay away from harmful drugs. Grades K-2 will see the program at 8:30 a.m.; grades 3-5 at 9:30 a.m. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend.
Grapevine Middle School
The Life Choices Program of the Texas Department of Corrections will send two inmates to speak with students about making positive choices. Grades 6-7 will meet in the gym at 10:30 a.m.; Eighth-grade students meet at 1 p.m.

Silver Lake Elementary – “Sock it to drugs:” Wear socks in the classroom.
Timberline Elementary – “Use your head-don’t use drugs:” Crazy hair day.
Colleyville Middle – “Be crazy for life, not drugs:” Tacky day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Put a shade on drugs:” Wear caps, visors, cowboy hats or crazy hats.
Grapevine Middle – “Team up against drugs:” Wear favorite team apparel.
Heritage Middle – “Too cool to do drugs:” Wear sunglasses.

Grapevine High – “Chain of Life:” Students pledge to be drug free to complete paper chain.

Dove Elementary – “Drugs and I don’t mix:” Mismatched clothing day.
Glenhope Elementary – “Follow your dreams/don’t do drugs:” Wear pajamas/slippers.
Grapevine Elementary – “Use your head and don’t do drugs:” Wear hair in a crazy way or wear a wig (no coloring of hair).
Heritage Elementary – “HES Eagles ‘sock’ it to drugs:” Wear crazy socks.
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “We’re wild about being drug free:” Wear animal print clothing and/or wild hats.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Team up against drugs:” Wear favorite team shirt.
Timberline Elementary – “Wear red:” Wear red clothing.

Colleyville Heritage High – “Choose your friends wisely:” Dress like a twin.
Bridges – “Get yourself tied up in making good choices:” Wear a tie.
Grapevine Middle School
The Texas Drug Enforcement Agency will send a helicopter to fly over the GMS football field to photograph students, faculty and family members spelling out “GMS 06 Drug Free.”
The photo will feature a running “Pony,” the school mascot, designed by Bill Berghauser’s Technology Education class.
Grapevine High School
Grapevine High School PTSA will sponsor “Take Two,” a multi-media presentation by M.A.D.D. at 9 a.m. Oct. 25 in the GHS auditorium. The 55-minute production features celebrity interviews, poignant stories of real young people and a contemporary soundtrack. The show also teaches the importance of making healthy choices, avoiding alcohol and other drug use and understanding the risks and responsibilities of new teen drivers.

Colleyville Heritage High – “Split from drugs not life:” Banana splits will be given out during lunches. Students may bring a banana and receive a free treat or pay 25 cents without banana.
