February 2 – Silverlake Elementary Kindergarten rodeo
– 11:30 a.m.
Students dressed in western attire will participate in the annual
Silver Lake Rodeo. There will be chuck wagon snacks, dancing,
horse shoes, branding, a clothing relay and a timed bandana-racing.
- February
3 - The 7th Annual Fillie Trot 5K and Fun Run at
Grapevine Lake, Oak Grove Park, 2500 North Dove Loop, Grapevine,
TX. One-mile fun run/walk begins at 9:05 a.m., 5K walk begins
at 9:30 a.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and packet pick-up
is at 8:45 a.m. The event benefits the Beth DuPertuis Memorial
Fund and the Grapevine High School Dance Team. Trophies will be
awarded to the top three female and male 5K finishers in all age
groups. There will also be an award for overall and master winners.

• February 8 – Silverlake Elementary “We Love
Math” Family Math Night – 6:30-7:30 p.m. Parents are
invited to come with their children and participate in a fun evening
of math activities.

February 13 – Glenhope Elementary will host a coffee with
the principal at 8:00 a.m. in the school cafeteria.

February 3 – The Grapevine High School Fabulous Fillies Dance
Team will host their seventh annual Fillie Trot 5K race and fun

Awards
and Announcements
• GCISD cheerleaders earn awards at national competition
Cheerleading teams from GCISD schools received several awards at
the recent American Cheerleading Association (ACA) National Championships
competition. Grapevine High School earned the Grand Champion title
as well as first place in the small and large division. In the middle
school division, Cross Timbers placed first with Colleyville and
Heritage middle schools earning second and third place respectively.

The Grapevine High School Debate Team Excels at Debate Tournament
The GHS debate team had an outstanding performance at the debate
tournament at Grand Prairie high school. Four policy debate teams
represented GHS and set new standards for success. The CX debate
team of Amy Schade and Maddison Craig became the first ninth grade
policy debate team in GHS debate history to make it to the semifinals
of a varsity tournament and earn points toward state qualification.
David Jagneaux, a sophomore, was awarded the Top Speaker at the
tournament. He and his partner, ninth grader Kayla Crosby, won three
of four debates in preliminary rounds and advanced to the semifinals.
The sophomore policy debate team of Elaine Lin and Farhaud Mirzadeh
went undefeated through six debates and won the tournament. This
win secured a state qualification for the two, making them the fourth
policy debate team to qualify for the TFA State tournament this
year. TFA State, the largest state tournament in the nation, will
be held at Creekview High School in early March.

Cross Timbers Middle School PTA receives grant
Keep Grapevine Beautiful has awarded an Education Grant in the amount
of $175.00 to the Cross Timbers Middle School PTA Landscape Beautification
committee to aid in their continuing efforts to create a Native
landscape on campus and to educate students and their families of
the importance of xeriscaping.

GCISD High School Cheerleading Meeting
An informational meeting for parents of any student interested in
trying out for cheerleader at Grapevine High School or Colleyville
Heritage High School for the 2007-2008 school year will be held
Thursday, February 1 in the Cross Timbers Middle School Lecture
Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Grapevine Elementary Bee Winners
Grapevine Elementary is proud to announce Noah Nelson as the winner
of the school spelling bee. Aspen Squyers placed second. Joshua
Jackson was the winner of the geography bee. Andrea Pajarillo placed
second. In the vocabulary bee (Word Power Challenge) David Edwards
was the winner and Andrea Pajarillo placed second.

Colleyville Middle School Bee Winners
Colleyville Middle School is proud to announce Brandon Maahs as
the school geography bee winner and Matthew Peterson as the first
runner up. Maahs recently took a challenging written test to qualify
for the upcoming state bee. The winner of the CMS Spelling Bee was
Kyle Dunham and Lydia Lee earned second place.

Bransford Elementary School hosts Hoop Shoot
More than 150 children competed in the Hoop Shoot contest hosted
by Bransford Elementary. In the boys eight and nine year old division,
Andrew McOmber was the winner and Holden Lyons was the runner up.
In the 10 and 11 year old division Camron Sartin was the winner
and Hunter Pitts was the runner up. In the girls eight and nine
year old division, Ashley Riggins was the winner and Michelle Kotlik
was the runner up. Staci Stanford was the 10 and 11 year old division
winner and Gracie Carver was runner up. In the area contest held
on January 13 at the Bedford Boys Ranch, Ashley Riggins, won the
overall contest making 18 out of 25 free throws. She will now represent
Tarrant County in the next round of competition with the opportunity
to earn a State and National Bid.
