- February
12-15 – Colleyville Elementary students will participate
in a clothing drive of Shoes and Socks for GRACE. Students and
staff are collecting new children's and women's socks and new
or gently used tennis shoes for children, women and men.
- February
12 ¬– The Grapevine High School Mustang Band Department
will present its annual Contemporary Band Music Concert at 7:00
p.m. in the Madeleine Hemley Auditorium at Grapevine High School.
The free concert will feature the Grapevine High School Concert
Band, Symphonic Band, Honors Band, and the Wind Ensemble performing
contemporary wind band music. The public is invited to attend.

February 13 – Glenhope Elementary will host a coffee with
the principal at 8:00 a.m. in the school cafeteria.

Registration for spring driver’s education classes will begin
February 21 and extend through March 9. Classes are filled on a
first-come, first-served basis. EACH SESSION WILL BE OFFERED CONTINGENT
UPON ENROLLMENT THAT WILL ENSURE COVERAGE OF PROGRAM COSTS.

Last chance to order wall tiles
Grapevine High School’s commemorative tile wall is now in
the main hallway. GHS alumni, current students, future students
and staff who would like to have a 6x8 tile to place on the school’s
wall in honor of the 100th year celebration are asked to create
non-copyrighted pictures and/or artwork on special paper provided
by the campus by March 9. The price for current students is $20
for all tiles. The cost for other individuals is $25 for the first
tile and $20 for additional tiles. For additional information, contact

GCISD receives Award for Excellence in Texas School Health
GCISD was presented the 2006 Award for Excellence in Texas School
Health at a recognition ceremony hosted by the Texas School Health
Association at their Annual Conference Awards Banquet in January.
The program, Cannon Roadrunner, was developed, coordinated and implemented
in Cannon Elementary School by Susan Molle, RN, BSN. Cannon Roadrunners
is an after school group for third through fifth graders who spend
time learning about healthy eating and exercise.
• Future Problem Solving competition winners announced
Fourteen teams of Cross Timbers Middle School seventh and eighth
grade students recently competed in the second problem of the Future
Problem Solving competition. After studying the topic of Protecting
National Treasures, students were asked to read a scenario, brainstorm
16 possible problems, determine an underlying problem and brainstorm
16 possible solutions for the underlying problem, analyze 10 solutions
and write an action plan in a two hour timeframe. Winners include:

GHS students garner awards at District DECA competition
More than 1,000 students, including students from Grapevine High
School, recently competed in the District DECA Competition. DECA
is an international association of high school and college students
studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business,
finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service. The following
students from GHS were District winners and will compete at the
State competition in Corpus Christie in March:

CHHS Band to Host Regional NTCA Contest
The Colleyville Heritage High School Band will host the North Texas
Colorguard Association Winter Guard and Percussion contest on February
24 at the CHHS Athletics Center, Gym 1. Doors open at 8 a.m. and
contests begin at 8:30 a.m. Throughout the day, over 65 Texas and
Oklahoma Winter Guard and Percussion units will compete. The public
is invited to attend. Admission is $7 per person ages 9 and above
and children age 8 and under are free. Limited sponsor and vendor

Taylor Elementary teacher receives honor
Cappy from the Tony & Cappy New Morning Mix 102.9 FM radio show
recently presented Mary Sletten of O.C. Taylor Elementary with the
star teacher award. A parent nominated her for the award and Cappy
came to the campus to honor Sletten and the entire special services
team with the award as well as present gift certificates to a spa
and dinner.

CHHS debate team wins honors
CHHS debate team member, Arti Bhatia, has qualified for the Tournament
of Champions at the University of Kentucky in May. Bhatia and other
students recently competed at the Flower Mound debate tournament.
Bhatia captured first place in the Lincoln Douglas division which
started out with over 100 competitors. Other place winners in the
Lincoln Douglas tournament include: Michael Sorenson-Quarterfinals;
Rahim Sayani-Octofinals; Salima Noorani-Octofinals; Binita Patel-Double
Octofinals. Sayani was also named top speaker in that division.
In policy debate, the team of Evan Defilippis and James Hamraie
captured first place honors. Other place winners in policy debate
include: Alex Nasr and Jonathan Wang-Quarterfinals; Lyndon Lee and
Keith Scharfenberg-Quarterfinals. Nasr was also named second speaker
in that division.

Cheerleading awards
Colleyville Heritage High School Varsity Cheerleaders recently won
first place at Texas State College in San Marcus UCA Cheerleading
State Competition. They will be competing Feb. 9-14 at UCA Nationals
in Orlando Florida. In addition, the Cross Timbers eighth grade
cheerleaders recently won the ACA National Championship in Ft. Worth
for the Jr. High Division.

CHHS publication receives national award
Eclectic,
a literary publication published by Colleyville Heritage High School
has been selected to receive a rank of Superior in the 2006 National
Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Program to Recognize Excellence
in Student Literary Magazines. Chris Ertel, Alex Muller and Joe
Muller serve as student editors under the direction of faculty advisor,
Patt Walker.
The program honors quality literary magazines from middle schools,
junior high schools and high schools in the United States, Canada,
and American schools abroad. This marks the twenty-third year for
this program. In 2006, 497 schools submitted entries; of those,
nine received the Highest Award, 156 Superior, 236 Excellent, and
90 Above Average. The intent of the program’s originators
was to recognize quality and encourage all schools to develop literary
magazines, seeking excellence in writing and school-wide participation
in production.
