GCISD
names new HR Executive Director
A
former Grapevine-Colleyville ISD teacher and assistant principal
will be re-joining the District as the Executive Director of Human
Resources. Tommie Johnson, 44, currently serves as an elementary
principal in Keller ISD.
“I’ve
discovered throughout my years in education that it’s the
best people who make the biggest difference in the lives of children,”
Johnson said. “That belief and that philosophy is what will
guide me to hire and keep the best people, and that’s one
of the most important things we can do to continue enhancing the
learning environment.”
Johnson has
been serving in education for 21 years, 13 of those as a campus
administrator. She has spent 10 years as an elementary school principal,
most recently at Bette Perot Elementary in Keller ISD. She served
as assistant principal of GCISD’s Bransford Elementary from
1993-1996, and taught second grade at O.C. Taylor Elementary from
1991-1993. She also has taught in the Arlington and Lancaster school
districts.
During her tenure,
Johnson has had opportunities to serve in various roles related
to Human Resources. Through these experiences, she has gained expertise
in areas such as district screening and interviewing, staffing,
budget, recruiting, policy review, training and performance evaluations.
She has led district trainings on employee documentation, developed
professional growth plans, participated in recruiting activities
and established well-balanced teaching teams.
Johnson is a
member of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators,
the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association and
is a PTA Honorary Life Member. She has also received the Ethel Goodman
Award for Outstanding Dedication to Education.
“I’m
looking forward to working with Mrs. Johnson,” said Superintendent
Dr. Kay Waggoner. “She will be a great addition to the team
and an asset to the District.”
Johnson lives
in Keller with her husband, Mike, and two high school children,
Clay and Jenna.
