Holiday band/choir performances
Bear Creek Elementary – Fourth- and fifth-grade choir holiday program, Dec. 5.

Santa Shop open at TES
The Timberline Elementary PTA is hosting its annual Santa Shop from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 6-8 in the library. Students can shop for holiday gifts ranging in price from 25 cents to $15. Information:  Beth Harwell, 817-329-4575 or bbharwell@msn.com.

HMS choir holiday tour
Members of the Heritage Middle School choir will tour various elementary school campuses throughout the District as well as area retirement homes on Dec. 7 as part of the annual holiday tour. Information:  817-305-4790.

First deadline approaching for GCISD Video Festival
Students planning to enter the logo and/or poster contest for the fifth-annual GCISD Video Festival should submit their entries to the front office of their campus by the end of the school day on Dec. 7. Visit http://www.gcisd-k12.org/vidfest/vidfest_logo.html for more details.

BCES breakfast with Santa
Students, parents, grandparents and friends of Bear Creek Elementary are invited to the annual breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. Dec. 8 in the cafeteria. Information:  817-305-4860.

Glenhope breakfast with Santa
Glenhope Elementary students and families are invited to a PTA holiday breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. on Dec. 9 in the cafeteria. Students will also have the opportunity to make holiday crafts. Information:  817-251-5720.

CHHS vs. Carroll in playoffs
Colleyville Heritage High will take on Carroll High in the UIL quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at Texas Stadium. Tickets are $6 for students, $8 for adults and are available at CHHS and the GCISD Swim Center during the following times:  1-4 p.m. Tuesday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 8 a.m.-noon Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate for $10. Metro Sports Communications will broadcast the game live on KKGM 1630 AM radio, with a one-hour countdown-to-kickoff program beginning at noon. Fans can also listen to the game online at www.kkgmam.com. Information:  817-305-4700.

GCISD Board of Trustees meeting
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees will meet for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Dec. 11 at the GCISD Administration Building, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave. in Grapevine. Open session begins at 7 p.m. Information:  817-251-5503.

GCISD State of the District
GCISD Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner will present the annual State of the District address Dec. 12 in the Colleyville Heritage High School Library. The address is presented by the Council of PTAs and will follow a brief general meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Information:  817-251-5503.

  • Glenhope Elementary – Choir holiday program, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14.

TES Talent Show
Students and teachers of Timberline Elementary will perform various songs, dances and other entertainment as part of Timberline’s Terrific Talent Show, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the cafeteria. Admission is free. Information:  Beth Harwell, 817-329-4575 or bbharwell@msn.com.

GCISD closed for winter break
GCISD campuses and administrative offices will be closed from Dec. 21-Jan. 1 for winter break. Teachers and employees return Jan. 2; students return Jan. 4.

Awards and Announcements

Cannon school nurse honored for excellence
Sue Molle, school nurse at Cannon Elementary, has received an award for Excellence in Texas School Health from the Texas Department of State Health Services. She will be honored at a banquet in January and will receive a certificate, a banner for her school and a $1,000 check for the district.

GHS Forensic Team scores big in out-of-state meet
Grapevine High debate and oral interpretation students brought home honors from one of the largest high school invitational tournaments in the nation. Twenty-four students competed in the Glenbrooks Speech and Debate Tournament in Chicago last month, with junior Leslie Berntsen fully qualifying for the national Tournament of Champions. Individual honors include:  Berntsen, semi-finalist in Student Congress and Tournament of Champions qualifier; Joanna Smith, semi-finalist in Student Congress and earned first Tournament of Champions bid; Mia Avramescu, quarter-finalist in Original Oratory; Shelby Pryor and Eric Frazier, second in junior varsity Cross-Examination Debate; Braeden Ayars and Casey Williams, sixth in Duo Acting; and Eric Frazier, ninth-place speaker in junior varsity Cross-Examination Debate. The Debate team is coached by Jane Boyd and Jason Sykes, and the Oral Interpretation team is coached by Dan Radomski and Grant Hahn.
