What’s Happening This Week
• GHS Fish Camp
Incoming freshmen to Grapevine High School will attend orientation from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 7 in the GHS Auditorium. Students will learn about GHS traditions, pick their class schedules, pay required fees, get locker assignments, tour the campus and pick up textbooks. Cost is $15 and includes lunch, commemorative T-shirt, student planner and student ID. Information: 817-251-5210.

• Foundation hosts luncheon for new GCISD employees
The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation’s annual New Educator Luncheon will be 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Grapevine Convention Center. Employees who have been hired for the 2006-2007 school year, or were hired after the start of the 2005-2006 school year, are invited to this year’s welcome luncheon. • GCISD Convocation
All Grapevine-Colleyville ISD employees are encouraged to attend the 2006 Convocation ceremonies, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Grapevine High School gymnasium. This is the annual kick-off event for the new school year. Information: 817-251-5503.

• CHHS freshman orientation
Incoming freshmen to Colleyville Heritage High School will attend orientation from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 11 in the CHHS Panther Gym. Students will learn about CHHS traditions, tour the campus, pay required fees, etc. Cost is $10 and includes lunch and various CHHS spirit gear. Information: 817-305-4700.

• GCISD registration for 2006-2007
Registration is ongoing for schools throughout GCISD. Pertinent back-to-school information for specific campuses is available on the district’s web site, www.gcisd-k12.org/pr/backtoschool.htm.

• Season tickets for varsity football on sale
Season tickets for Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High varsity football games are on sale for current season-ticket holders through Aug. 16 at the GCISD Swim Center, 2305 Pool Road. Tickets may be purchased from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m.-Noon Fridays. Season ticket sales will be open to the public beginning Aug. 21. The five-game packet for each school is $40. Information: 817-251-5641.

• GCISD first day of school

• CHHS cheerleaders to host cheer clinic
The Colleyville Heritage High School cheerleaders will host Cheerfest, a cheerleading clinic for kindergarten-middle school students, on Aug. 26 in the CHHS Panther Den. Participants will learn cheers, chants and dances during the clinic, then give a performance. They will also perform during pre-game activities for the first CHHS varsity home football game and will cheer during part of the first quarter. Awards and Announcements
• CHHS football coach selected as state delegate
Chris Cunningham, head varsity football coach at Colleyville Heritage High, was selected as the Texas delegate to the 2006 NFL Youth Football Coaching Summit, held Aug. 3-4 during the 2006 Hall of Fame Weekend. Cunningham was one of 51 youth and high school coaches, one from each state and Washington, D.C., selected to attend the weekend of educational seminars designed to support the youth coaching community. A panel of local state representatives selected each coach based on an essay the delegates wrote about their coaching career as well as their commitment to youth and coaching philosophies. • GCISD cheerleader tryouts
GCISD high school cheerleader tryouts for the 2007-2008 school year will be March 3, 2007, at Heritage Middle School. Clinics will be offered from 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 27-March 1 at Heritage Middle. GCISD middle school cheerleader tryouts will be March 9, 2007. (This is the Friday before Spring Break, so please avoid any travel conflicts.) Information: 817-251-5641.
