• GCISD first day of school

• Season tickets for varsity football on sale
Season tickets for Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High varsity football games are on sale for current season-ticket holders through Aug. 16 at the GCISD Swim Center, 2305 Pool Road. Tickets may be purchased from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m.-Noon Fridays. Season ticket sales will be open to the public beginning Aug. 21. The five-game packet for each school is $40. Information: 817-251-5641.

Upcoming Calendar Items
• Groundbreaking ceremony
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD community is invited to a ceremony celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Colleyville Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 22 at the site of the new campus, 5911 Pleasant Run Road in Colleyville. GCISD voters approved the building of a new CES campus as part of the 2005 Bond program. The new campus is scheduled to be open in fall 2007; the current CES facility will be renovated for use by GCISD Nutrition Services and will house the VISTA and Bridges programs. • Registration begins for evening education classes
Registration begins Aug. 22 for Session 1 of GCISD’s TARGET evening classes for high school credit. Basic courses are offered to allow students to catch up on credits, advance in order to graduate early or open a section of their normal schedule to take another course of their choice. Session 1 begins Sept. 6 and classes are held at Bridges Accelerated Learning Center, 736 E. Northwest Highway, Grapevine.

Registration forms and payment will be accepted from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. through Sept. 1 at the Office of Continuing Education at 736 E. Northwest Highway in Grapevine. Late registration is 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 5. Cost for the one-semester class is $200 for GCISD students and $250 for students from other districts. A $10 non-refundable registration fee will be charged per students. Checks, money orders and cash are accepted in person; MasterCard, Visa and Discover are accepted by fax at 817-251-5477. • CHHS Band hosting annual silent auction
The Colleyville Heritage High School Band will host its annual Extravaganza and Silent Auction on Aug. 25 at the CHHS Student Activity Center. The silent auction opens at 6:30 p.m., and at 7 p.m. the band will preview its 2006 show, “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. and will be catered by MAC’s Steaks and Seafood of Colleyville. Dessert will be provided by the CHHS Color Guard. Tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased from any CHHS band member. The band hopes to raise $11,000 to fund clinicians for the students as well as competition expenses. • CHHS cheerleaders to host cheer clinic
The Colleyville Heritage High School cheerleaders will host Cheerfest, a cheerleading clinic for kindergarten-middle school students, on Aug. 26 in the CHHS Panther Den. Participants will learn cheers, chants and dances during the clinic, then give a performance. They will also perform during pre-game activities for the first CHHS varsity home football game and will cheer during part of the first quarter. • GCISD cheerleader tryouts
GCISD high school cheerleader tryouts for the 2007-2008 school year will be March 3, 2007, at Heritage Middle School. Clinics will be offered from 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 27-March 1 at Heritage Middle. GCISD middle school cheerleader tryouts will be March 9, 2007. (This is the Friday before Spring Break, so please avoid any travel conflicts.) Information: 817-251-5641.
