Happening This Week
• GCISD Board of Trustees special meeting
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees will meet for a
special-called meeting on April 2 at the GCISD Administration Building,
3051 Ira E. Woods Avenue in Grapevine. Open session begins at 5:30
p.m. with executive session immediately following. Information:

GCISD student/staff holiday
GCISD campuses will be closed April 6 for a student/staff holiday.
Administrative offices will remain open. Classes will resume on
April 9, which will serve as a bad weather make-up day for a weather
closing day used in January.

Registration open for GCISD Summer Enrichment
GCISD’s Summer Enrichment program begins June 4 for kids in
kindergarten through eighth grade. The program, “Explore and
Discover,” offers a variety of classes including fine arts,
cooking, cultural studies, math and science, social skills, sports/recreation
and technology. There are both morning and afternoon classes available.

• GCISD Bus Safety Road-eo
The 20th annual GCISD School Bus Safety Road-eo will be April 11
outside the GCISD Transportation Department offices. The purpose
of the event is to reinforce the special knowledge and skills required
to drive a school bus in a fun and interesting manner. Drivers will
compete in 10 different driving events and two written tests. The
top three will receive plaques; the top five will advance to the
regional competition on May 5 in Plano. Information: 817-251-5503.

5th Annual GCISD Video Festival
Finalists have been selected for the 5th Annual GCISD Video Festival.
Finalist entries will be screened from 4-10 p.m. April 10, and Video
Festival awards will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 26. Both events will
be at the Metro Cinema in Colleyville and are free to the public.

Foundation gearing up for annual golf tournament
The 6th annual Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation Golf Tournament
will be April 15-16 at Timarron Country Club in Southlake. Pre-tournament
appreciation party and auction is 5 p.m. April 15. Tournament welcome
and shotgun start is 12:30 p.m. April 16. Funds raised from this
event will support collaborative efforts of GCISD and the Education
Foundation for innovative education efforts. Information: Executive

and Announcements
• GCISD administrator earns state honor
Cody Spielmann, assistant principal at Timberline Elementary, has
been named the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association’s
TEPSAN of the Year for Region 11. Spielmann has served as the region
president this past school year.

HMS student’s artwork chosen by District
Artwork created by Susanna Zou, an eighth-grader at Heritage Middle
School, has been selected for purchase by the District as part of
the annual GCISD Art Show. Each year, GCISD features selected artwork
of elementary, middle and high school students during this exhibit,
and one piece of student artwork is selected for purchase by the
District to be framed and added to permanent display in the Administration
building halls. This year’s selection was made from middle
school artwork submitted by the artists for purchase and features
a tree scene created using hand-drawn artwork and photo software.
Zou is the daughter of Joseph Zou and Lily Song of Euless.

Two GCISD students take first in state PTA Reflections contest
Grapevine High School junior Chris Daily and Cross Timbers Middle
School eighth-grader Matthew Smith have each won the first place
Overall Award of Excellence in their divisions in the State PTA
Reflections contest. Daily competed in the musical composition category
for the senior high division with his jazz ballad arrangement titled,
“Underneath the Pale Moonlight.” In the middle school
division, Smith competed in the musical composition category for
his piano arrangement titled, “The Hungarian Frenchman.”
Both students will perform their winning compositions at the Area
17 Awards Ceremony at 11 a.m. April 28 at Haltom High School. Their
entries now advance to the national Reflections contest in Washington,
D.C., and national winners will be announced at the end of April.

CHHS debate students earn top-four finish at nationals
The debate team of Andrew Murray and Alex Nasr, both sophomores
at Colleyville Heritage High School, finished as semifinalists in
the second-year division of the Policy National Championships recently
in Atlanta, Ga. Competing against 54 other teams representing 12
states, Murray and Nasr were also named third and sixth best speakers
in their division and are now recognized as one of the top sophomore
debate teams in the country. Their debate teacher and coach is David

Senior scholarships available from Bransford Elementary
Any GCISD graduating seniors who attended Bransford Elementary for
at least one full academic year are eligible for one of two scholarships
sponsored by the Bransford PTA. The scholarships will recognize
students with superior achievement in citizenship, leadership and
academics. Applications are available from the high school counselors
and must be returned by 4 p.m. April 27. Information: 817-305-4930.
